Indian- origin Sayonara Luxton, who is in her 60s, is appointed as the new mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in southeast England. She has been serving as deputy mayor of the area for the past year and was proposed for the post by former Councillor Dee Quick.
Goa-born councilor from Sunningdale left Goa 40 years ago. She worked with Airbus industries in Dubai before moving to the UK with her husband, Ian. She was also the chairperson of the licensing pane, adult services and health overview and scrutiny panel, and vice chairperson for the foster-parenting panel and a member of other committees.
"When I left Goa 40 years ago, I could not in my wildest dreams have dreamt that I could hold such a high office”, says the new councilor.
"I will be working on a special project in Her Majesty's honour and further details will be released soon," she added.
She took over as mayor from councillor Dee Quick.
