Sherin V Joy (39), a native of Chengannur in Alappuzha district, an engineering graduate, has been arrested, for charges on chopping his NRI father’s body into six pieces and dumping them at different places, before shooting him to death.
An IT professional, Sherin allegedly killed his father Joy V John (68), who was for almost three decades, was settled in Texas, in the US. The deceased had come to Chengannur, over a property dispute, two weeks ago with his wife Mariyamma, a nurse, and a younger son, who is a doctor. The accused has returned to Kerala in 2010 after his marriage which broke a year later, was also brought up in US.
The police said, the fight happened during their journey back from Thiruvananthapuram, after getting their car’s air-conditioner repaired. The father and son reportedly had a heated debate over rent collected from one of their property. The incident took place at an isolated place in Mulakkuzha, when Joy used his father’s gun to fire four rounds at him and later after cutting and packing those in bags at night, he threw them at various places. Later he even called his mother and told her that his father has been killed in an accidental firing and sought an apology. On May 27, the police tracked him down to a hotel in Kottayam.
The police claimed that John had a good relation with his other two medical professional kids, while since childhood; Sherin had a strained relationship with his father, who was not willing to part with his property to help him out. Sherin has been remanded in judicial custody, after he was arrested and presented before the court.
