In an unfortunate accident, Gujarat MP Poonam Madam, 41, recently felt inside the drain and injured herself. This incident occurred when she was talking to a group of people during an anti-encroachment drive. Ms. Poonam along with a few other people who were standing on the top of the drain, a concrete sheet which was made to cover the drain, which resulted in the mishap.
The residents of the area were not letting the employees carry the scheduled demolition upon which Madam rushed to the spot and tried to convince them. She had gone to meet the residents of Jalaram slum who were opposing to the demolition drive and had entered into an argument with the employees of the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC).
The drain in which she suddenly felt joins the nearby Lakhoti Lake and remains mostly dry during the summer. A fire brigade team which was stationed nearby conducted the rescue operations to pull her out of the drain. She was then rushed to the Mumbai hospital immediately.
According to her doctor, S Maheshwari, "She has suffered a 4-inch wound on her head that caused bleeding which is now under control. We have not detected any fracture in X-Ray reports but CT scan remains to be done. She has hurt her left shoulder but has not sustained a fracture. All in all, her condition is stable, her vitals normal, and she is conscious and there is nothing to worry about”. As per the latest news, she is said to be recovering well.
