Every year May 11 is celebrated as the National Technology Day. The day is significant, because on this day India successfully tested nuclear bombs in Pokhran on May 11, 1998. On this day in 1999, India witnessed one of its greatest technological advancements as the scientists flew the first indigenous aircraft “Hansa III” at Bangalore. On the same day, the country also saw successful test firing of the Trishul missile.
The theme of this year’s Tech Day celebration was ‘Technology enablers of Startup India’. President Mukherjee also awarded several companies and individuals for their contributions to the field of technology. The Pune-based technology business incubator, Venture Center at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), was one of the awardees. The Venture Center houses 40 startups out of which 35 are science and technology-based.
Various Indian government Science and technology related departments such as Department of Science and Technology (DBT), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), etc. participated in the awards function.
