As per the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) figures the number of internet users in India is 332 million, however the service providers estimate that the number is well over 400 million and by 2017, India is expected to have about 500 million users. “Service providers are telling me the up-to-date figure would be 402 million. We were to have 500 million users by 2017; I feel it will happen this year itself,” said Mr Prasad.
According to the Minister, “India is sitting on cusp of a big digital revolution. Indians first observe technology, then adopt it and then they start enjoying it and become empowered in the process”.
As per the official data shared by the Indian Telecom Minister, Mr. Ravi Shanker Prasad in Lok Sabha, India now has over 100 crore ( 1 billion) mobile users, the GSM subscribers constitute 98.2 crore of the mobile population, while CDMA users count the remaining.
