Actress Priyanka Chopra, along with the Tennis star Sania Mirza, , Google CEO Sundar Pichai, founders of Flipkart Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal, and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuraj Rajan has recently been named by TIME Magazine in its list of the ‘100 Most Influential People in the World’. Also on the list is the NRI actor Aziz Ansari and Raj Panjabi, CEO of Last Mile Health and the US NRI Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley. Environmentalist Sunita Narain also featured in the list for the first time.
The Tennis star Sania was recently awarded India’s third highest civilian honour the ‘Padma Bhushan’. Priyanka, who came into the limelight in the West playing the lead role in popular American TV series “Quantico”, was recently awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian government.
Hailing the RBI Governoras ‘India’s prescient banker’ the coveted magazine says that “he is among a rare breed of economic seers who steered India through the global crisis and fall out”.
About the Environmentalist Sunita Narain the Magazine says in her profile that, “Hers is a voice that urgently needs to be heard in this era of climate change. It added, despite resistance from many quarters, some of their key recommendations have been embraced by the courts”.
On Flipkart, TIME says that the “Flipkart founders Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal may have come across as arrogant when they told investors the company they started in 2007 as an online bookstore could be worth $100 million in a decade. It turned out to be modesty: Flipkart now has 75 million users and a $13 billion valuation".
The Chennai born CEO of Google Sundar Pichai was hailed as the Internet’s chief engineer who helped change the world.
